Louis Gabriel Moreau, called Moreau the Elder, was born in 1740 and died in Paris in 1806. He was the brother of Jean Michel Moreau and pupil of Machy. In 1769, he became a member of the Academie St-Luc and a court artist of Comte d'Artois. Especially known were his park landscapes from Paris suburbs.

His works can be seen at the Louvre and other important French museums.
