Johann Ernst Julius HEINSIUS (1740-1812), miniature painter born in Weimar, he settled in France at the end of 1770 becoming well-known as a portrait painter in Paris and Versailles. He soon became the painter of the daughters of Louis XV. In 1779 and 1782 he exhibited at the "Salon de la Correspondance" in Paris. At the outbreak of the French Revolution, due to his ties to the royal family (he was called "Premier Peintre de Mesdames de France") he was forced to leave France and take refuge in Gien and then in Orléans where he died in 1812. Schidlof described him as a skilled artist who painted very expressive portraits.
Excellent condition, the colors are very fresh.
