Woman in straw hat with flowers

Around 1750

Watercolor and gouache on parchment, 6.3 x 4.7 cm

Gold metal frame, 8 x 5.3 cm.

A precious miniature by Jean-Daniel Welper (1730-1789) or his entourage.

Our elegant lady as a beautiful gardener wears a low-cut dress. She is wearing a powdered wig and a fine straw hat decorated with flowers. The comparative analysis of clothing, hairstyle and pose found on dated portraits of sovereigns allows us to identify with certainty the period based on the fashion of the moment. This portrait was painted during the Louis XV era, around 1750.

The scene is taken in her secret garden, where she poses decorated with flowers, undoubtedly symbols of her youth and her preserved beauty.

Portraits of this painter are kept in many museums. some very similar paintings can be found in the Tansey collection Ref.: 10982 KAT.NO.: 2008-149 (Photo 4-5). A few small accidents.

Price: €1400
