CHARLES ROBERTSON

CHARLES ROBERTSON

(C. 1760 - 1821)

Young woman portrait.

Watercolor and tempera, oval 6.6 x 5.5 cm.

Medallion of origin with intertwining of hair on the back, 8 x 6.2 cm.

Elegant portrait of a young woman with a turban made in the early nineteenth century. The refined technical skill, especially seen in the face, and the tones used are typical of Robertson who never signed his portraits.

The object is made even more precious by the beautiful medallion which on the back holds an excellently preserved mourning locket of the woman's hair.

Charles Robertson was a member of an important family of Dublin jewelers and miniaturists. He worked mainly between Dublin and London.
